This collaboration between God is a designer® & Hysterical Melancholy explores an aesthetic of the past and the future.

Using GIAD™ assets, Isaac Serif of Hyterical Melancholy created some operating system visuals considered cyber-trash to reimagine variant Windows™ operating system Ui in the style of GIAD.™ Angel Acevedo, of God is a designer®, used these layouts to create scenes using soundscapes to immerse the user into a variant moment in time.

An afternoon at an internet cafe in 1996.

In the dimly lit internet cafe of 1996, the air is alive with the sounds of early tech and human interaction. The room is filled with rows of clunky computers, their CRT monitors casting a soft glow on patrons immersed in the digital realm. The constant hum of dial-up modems echoes through the space, occasionally interrupted by AOL logins and logouts, the familiar jingles of Nokia cell phones, their owners eagerly answering calls or sending short text messages.

Printers with perforated paper continuously whir and clatter, generating reams of dot-matrix-printed pages. The distinct scent of fresh printouts mingles with the aroma of coffee, creating an unmistakable ambiance that captures the essence of the mid-1990s.

Amid the symphony of electronic noise, people engage in animated conversations both in-person and online, sharing insights about the emerging world wide web, chat rooms, and the wonders of the early internet. The internet cafe serves as a melting pot where the thrill of technological discovery converges with the social dynamics of a community navigating the uncharted territories of the digital frontier.

A doorway to the dawn of existence.

In the beginning... there was only a vast space and formless void, cold near absolute zero. A blanket of nothingness that stretched out into infinity. Suddenly like a symphonic roar of cosmic proportions, the voice of the Creator God rang out, echoing through the emptiness and bringing forth a brilliant burst of light that shattered the darkness.

With a single utterance, the divine Creator spoke the universe into being, weaving together the galaxies and stars, planets and moons, and all the cosmic matter that would fill the vast expanse of space. This Being painted the skies,  fashioned the mountains and breathed life into every creature great and small.

Amidst this splendor, the Creator was pleased. And as the first dawn broke over the horizon, the first day was born, full of the promise and potential of all the wonders yet to come. Such was the glory of the creation. A masterpiece of divine artistry and a testament to the power and beauty of the Artists' hand.

An afternoon at a nexus hub in 2096.

In the barely-lit nexus hub in 2096, stepping into what was known as an "internet cafe" is like entering a captivating blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge technology. The ambiance is a stylish homage to the aesthetics of the late 20th century, with neon lights casting a vibrant glow over sleek, holographic displays and hologram-like projections that replace traditional screens. The decor features a curated mix of vintage arcade cabinets, retro console logomarks, classic pixel & CGi art, and holographic murals reminiscent of early computer graphics from the 1990s to the 2020s.

Patrons lounge in ergonomic hover chairs equipped with advanced neural interfaces, seamlessly navigating the virtual landscape with mere thoughts though some choose to type into the air with vibrant RGB AR keyboards lit with every press. The ambience is filled with a subtle hum of quantum computing, powering the nexus' lightning-fast, decentralized aether-neuranet. A smooth and ambient soundtrack, reminiscent of vintage synthwave music, sets the tone for this futuristic haven of digital exploration.

Smartphones have evolved into compact, transparent devices seamlessly integrated into clothing or worn as jewelry, yet they retain a subtle nod to the iconic iPhone ringtones, paying homage to the tech relics of yesteryears. As patrons engage in virtual reality conversations and explore immersive online worlds, 2096's retro-future internet cafe stands as a testament to the timeless allure of the past, seamlessly interwoven with the boundless possibilities of a technologically advanced future.
